I'm working my way through the Classroom in a Book for Premiere Elements 9. In chapter 6 it gets you to use Smartfix on a supplied .mov file with known problems. I have auto-analysed the file, but dragging it to the Timeline does not invoke the Smartfix dialog. Right clicking on the file in the Timeline shows Smartfix to be greyed out. I have successfully Smartfixed a photograph. I have also just updated to version 9.01, but that did not help.
I found a forum post suggesting Smartfix did not work on some HD formats, but I assume it should work on a mov file supplied by Adobe for a training exercise using Smartfix :-)
Smart Fix doesn't work on all video formats.
I'd contact Adobe about the files they've provided to see if that applies in this case.
After auto analyzing the file you can right click it in Organizer to see the tags applied to it. If there are tags like Bright Video, Dark Video, Shaky Video, etc. then only PrE will ask you for SmartFix on dropping files to timeline. If there are no such tags, then your clip is OK and does not require any automatic quality enhancement or may be Auto-analyzer cannot detect it.
