    Website shows blank online

    Sylvia[87]

      Hi,

      I finished my catalyst website and exported it as a main.html and renamed it to index.html.

      As I open it locally in Chrome or Firefox it shows up perfectly.

      But... if I put it on my website via a ftp-program and I type the adres in my browser the page shows up as a blank page...??

      I've contacted the hosting-folks, but the only responds the had was; "You probably did something wrong with your file"... well as you can imagine this anwser did not help me at all.

      The url is www.stichtingblender.nl  If I rightclick on the website's blankness and "show sourcecode" it shows some code. So it seems to me that it doesn't load or something.

      Who had an idee??

          I have exactly the same problem. I used dreaweaver to add background and some metadata, basically used the  Flash Catalyst file as a regular swf. When i try it locally it works, both in firefax and internet explorer. When i deploy it online Internet Explorer opens website, shows HTML content but nor swf, there's just blank space. Firefox 4 and 3 shows ,,upgrade flash player", which didnt work. Any solution?

            OK,

            But you saved it as a .swf, but I saved it as a .html

              I misunderstood you a bit. I used published swf file to embed it into html. You are using html file generated from catalyst without any other software. Did you upload all other files created by Flash catalyst, for me it apears that you ulpoaded only html file. You have to upload all the files and folders flash catalyst generated.

                  Nope, i don't get it to work...

                  I think I just in general don't get how to properly upload my website from catalyst to the web.

                  If I go and search for tuts on this subject they explain the process in flash catalyst. But not the process after that.

                  Only dragging all the files generated by catalyst into the ftp server program (cyberduck) does NOT work in my case.

                  I red somewhere that I should do something in dreamweaver? But what exactly?

                  Can somebody explain how to get my catalyst website online? PLEASE.... My business I already a few weeks without a website

                    Hi Sylvia,

                    I too experienced the same problem as you initially when I first exported my Catalyst file. So I modified some existing code to get the flash working.

                    First though I took the entire deploy-to-web folder, renamed it (without changing anything inside the file) - in the example below I renamed the file to homepage. I then put the entire folder inside a media/banners folder.

                    FYI, you can test to see if your main.swf file produced from Catalyst is working by browsing to it in Bridge and clicking on the main.swf file. It should work, if ti doesn't try re-exporting again letting Catalyst overwrite the existing file.

                    Here is the code I used to embed the flash file in the HTML page.

                    <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="1000" height="565" id="Main">

                            <param name="movie" value="../media/banners/homepage/Main.swf" />

                            <param name="quality" value="high" />

                            <param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" />

                            <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />

                            <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" />

                            <!--[if !IE]>-->

                            <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="../media/banners/homepage/Main.swf" width="1000" height="565">

                              <param name="quality" value="high" />

                              <param name="bgcolor" value="#ffffff" />

                              <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />

                              <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" />

                              <param name="wmode" value="transparent" />

                              <!--<![endif]-->

                              <!--[if gte IE 6]>-->

                              <p> Either scripts and active content are not permitted to run or Adobe Flash Player version

                                10.0.45 or greater is not installed. </p>

                              <!--<![endif]-->

                              <a href="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer"> <img src="http://www.adobe.com/images/shared/download_buttons/get_flash_player.gif" alt="Get Adobe Flash Player" /> </a>

                              <!--[if !IE]>-->

                            </object>

                            <!--<![endif]-->

                          </object>

                    You would of course change the width and height parameter as well as the path to the movie. Then upload the movie folder and the HTML from Dreamweaver and it should work - works for me in all browsers.

                    I hope this helps!

                      If youre using uploader from your hosting provider, you will have to manually recreate all the folders like ,,history" and ,,assets" and copy the files in this folders also. Use files and folders from ,,deploy-to-web folder", rename the file main.html to index.html before ofcourse. Also, you probably have few folders in your hosting company where you can upload the files to. You have to know where the files have to be located.

                      To use dreamweaver you will have to set up new dreamweaver site, set upo server with the ftp info from your hosting company. More information on uploading with dreamweaver will be in dreamweavers help section, also you can check out hosting company help section, they should have it explained too. Also, here is the link to tutorial explaining how to set up the site in dreamweaver. http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/dreamweaver/website_upload.htm

                        Hi there,

                        I finally got it!

                        Thanks for the tips and tricks.

                        I imported the swf file in to a dreamweaver document (inside a table and centered this)

                        Made this the index.html and uploaden the whole package to my server.

                        And it works. Check it on www.stichtingblender.nl if you like.

                        This is a entire catalyst project.
