    Premier Pro hangs on launch

    pdoak

I am running Premier Pro CS5 on a mac (10.6.7).  The program has just been installed as part of the Creative Suite Master Collection.

When I launch the program, I get the 'Welcome to Adobe Premier Pro' splash window and can select a New Project. The 'New Sequence' window then appears and I can select a preset. However, when I select OK, the program hangs and I have to force quit it.

Below is the error messages that I see in the Console window when I run Premier Pro:

I have looked at the forums and have checked that all the folder permissions are as they should be.  If anyone has any ideas as to how to get this to work, it will be much appreciated.

I have just upgraded to CS5.5 but Premiere pro still hangs on launch - it will eventually load but only after about 20mins.  All other CS programs seem to work properly except this one.  I am running on a mac using a network home.  If I use a local account on my mac, premier pro runs without any problem.  It is annoying to have to switch accounts everytime I would like to use Premier pro.

I have checked the permissions and they all look correct.

          i.e. me  read and write

               staff     read

               everyone     read.

Does anyone have any ideas that I could try?

Premiere has a bunch of issues on Mac, if not run FIRST from an administrator level account. Log into your mac with an admin account, run Premiere, launch a project, edit for a second or two, save and close, and then you can (usually) log out and log in with any account and be just fine. Has something to do with the way Mac requires administrative rights to certain things conflicting with the way that Premiere has to access system files... so unless that access gets "unlocked" from an admin account first, it won't work right. Doesn't happen all the time, and seems to happen with lots of different things. One of the common ones is where you can't play more than 15-20 frames at a time without having first opened your project in an admin account. Major pain when you're running a mac in a networked environment with user-level accounts.

Give that a try, and if it still doesn't work, I'd suspect something with your network settings affecting how Premiere runs--is Premiere installed on the local machine, or is it installed on a network server? Is it still defaulted to save certain types of files (including preferences, etc.) in your profile which is being accessed over the network, or have you changed those settings to save onto a local drive? All things to look into...

              Thank you for you response.

The network account that I am launching premier pro from has administrator rights and this was the first account that I tried to launch premier pro.

Premier pro is loaded on a local machine which is being logged into by a network user with administrator rights.  I have not changed any preference settings so however premier pro sets up by default is how it is running.  Do I need to change some settings?

Is there anything else that I can try.  There must be a solution which does not involve only being able to run the program from a local account.

              Any help much appreciated!

I do not think that will ever work... read http://forums.adobe.com/thread/771151?tstart=0

For full networking support, I suggest filing a Feature Request.

                  Good luck,

                    Bill

Thank you for the advice.  I will not waste any further time on trying to get this to work.  I think that it would be useful if Adobe made it clear that this is a limitation of the product not that this would have stopped me purchasing it but it would have be nice to know.  I have used many apple programs and I don't think I have ever heard of one that will not work with a network account.

I have filed a Feature request/bug report as suggested.

                    Thank you.
