    Installing new fonts

    Rodieck Community Member

I have some new fonts which I’ll be using only very, very rarely.  I think, if my aged memory is working, that I’ve read that you want to minimize the number of fonts that are automatically loaded when you start Illustrator. But I’m a bit hazy on this, and I can’t find anything when I search this forum. Should I be loading these seldom-used fonts somewhere other than in the Windows Fonts folder, and, if so, where?

      I'm running CS5 on a Windows 7 machine.

No fonts are automatically loaded when you start Illustrator, so that number is already minimized at zero. Fonts are installed at the OS level using Font Book on a Mac or the Fonts control panel in Windows or a font management utility. Illustrator will probably launch quicker with fewer fonts active and it will be easier to select a font with a smaller Fonts menu, but that’s about it as far as Illustrator specifically goes. Your system will probably run a bit more responsively with fewer active fonts.

Thanks, Scott -- I appreciate that info.
