I don't know how to install Adobe Reader "in a single step", without going through the various install panels, one of which allows me to choose the install location (Change Destination Folder):
This is the Reader 9.4 install panel, as I have not installed Reader X on my system.
You can download the executable installer from http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
P.S. you cannot move an existing installation; you must uninstall your current Reader, then install it again in a different location.
Thanks, but version 9.4 did not give me the install panel either. When I click the download buttons, a yellow bar appears at the bottom of IE9 asking if I want to allow Adobe installer to run. There's never a simple download; it always downloads and installs in one shot, no questions asked, no choices about installation location, no installer window, nothing. It just gets installed automatically in the c drive.
I just saw the small print:
Adobe may use the Adobe Download Manager to seamlessly install your software.
How do I bypass the the Adobe Download Manager ??!
OK, I finally got it. I must have missed something in the link you had provided on my first try. This time I got an option to save the executable. Thank you so much!
