2. Re: DW - Contribute version compatibility
John Waller May 12, 2011 3:38 PM (in response to quality11)I've read that DW and Contribute need to be compatible or DW needs to be at least newer than Contribute. Is this true
Not to my knowledge. Contribute CS5 can edit a site created in DW CS4 as far as I know.
Also, if there is a tutorial or instructions somewhere about installing Contribute on a client's computer (to make it compatible with webmaster's DW) that would be great! I've never installed Contribute for a client.
Nothing to it.Client installs (or downloads and installs) Contribute.
They then have two options:
- You send them a Connection Key from Dreamweaver
- They manually enter the FTP details in Contribute
I've always preferred option 2.

quality11 May 12, 2011 4:17 PM (in response to John Waller)Thanks for your reply, John. Really? I broke down and called Adobe and they said yes, it has to be CS5 to CS5 but of course they want to sell the product. Have you tried it with lesser versions of DW before?
Thanks for those directions. Didn't think it was that easy! I'll try #2 too. Thought you had to go with #1.

I don't know for certain. I don't use Contribute any more.Perhaps try posting your question in the Contribute forums
http://forums.adobe.com/community/contribute/contribute_general_discussion
I stopped believing in Contrubute several years ago. It was a great innovation when it launched back in 2002.
Today, with the advent of free browser based editing, I think there are better solutions available than Contribute.
Its cost, per seat licensing model and the fact that you can only edit websites from a machine with Contribute installed means browser based editing is the way to go these days.

5. Re: DW - Contribute version compatibility
quality11 May 12, 2011 5:57 PM (in response to John Waller)I agree actually. Just worked out this way and can't rememer why.
Do you use WP, Joomla, Drupal? Or, is there an actual browser-based software like Contribute?
I just posted it in Contribute forum. Thanks for the suggestion.

John Waller May 12, 2011 6:58 PM (in response to quality11)I'm increasingly using WordPress more and more. Joomla! and Drupal are overkill for me.
I've also tried
