Here is the problem:
Some system configurators can only comply with the official Intel specs. This means that none of the i7-9xx systems can be ordered from such places with any memory faster than DDR3-1066.
Most places, however, allow you to order DDR3-1600 RAM with an i7-9xx CPU and motherboard. However, the memory speed will default to 1066; you will have to enable the XMP profile or overclock the CPU via the BCLK if you want to run memory faster than 1066.
My i7-950 based system has 24GB of 1600 RAM and it is currently running very hapily at 1624 with a QPI over 7 (cpu is overclocked).
Many motherboards (i.e. Asus, Gigabyte, EVGA, etc.) allow for QPI to run beyond Intel's ratings for the particular CPUs.
In addition to Randall's remarks, be aware that enabling XMP profiles on some motherboards can lead to a situation where only 4 of the 6 sticks are recognized and then you need to use BCLK settings to fully utilize DDR-1600 at the rated speed. This effectively is part of overclocking.
Thank you so much. Do these choices look OK? Does it matter to go with Bloomfield vs Gulftown intel processor?
I've been tweaking to make sure my Noctura will fly OK.

Looks like a very nice setup, capable of very good performance. The one thing missing is memory however. Corsair Vantage may be an affordablechoice for this system with very decent timings, DDR3-1600 9-9-9-20.
Thanks Harm. I'm finally about there. I switched to the Kingston RAM because of compatibility issues with the Noctura cooler ... as far as this monster fitting properly.
