    Gone, baby gone

    R-Obrey

I recently spent several days editing a video project in Premiere CS3 on an HP Pavilion desktop PC.

Every thing went very smoothly, even though it's been more than a year since I last used CS3.

Today, when I launched CS3, my new project did not appear in the list of Recent Projects, and I can't find any of the files related to the project. I've been searching all afternoon.

It appears to have been wiped off my system.

Anyone have any insight or suggestions?

Waiting 24 hours before starting wrist slitting.

      Thanks

      Rich

          Rich,

As PrPro is very beneign regarding file manipulation, I would think that something else is afoot.

Your Project is in a PRPROJ file (on a PC), so searching the system for .PRPROJ would be my first step.

What version of Windows are you running?

Have you done any I/O maintenance, such as cleaning out files, or moving HDD's around?

Along with the PRPROJ file(s), there is an AutoSave folder, inside the Project's root folder (where you located it, at New Project). As few other programs have an AutoSave folder, that would be another character set to search on.

PrPro creates folders in the Scratch Disks set, with MediaCache, etc.. One can choose the location for these, and the installation default is "Same as Project."

Can you locate any of your media? Did you draw your Assets from existing folders, or did you Copy your Assets to a folder structure under your Project root folder (my method)?

Remember, the PRPROJ file has none of the media in it, just XML links. This ARTICLE goes into more detail.

I hope that you can find your PRPROJ and the media.

          Good luck,

            Thanks, Bill, for the reply.

I will investigate your suggestions, but I'm pretty sure what you suspect is true: I did something boneheaded and self-inflicted!
