    "This page is locked" message

    quality11 Community Member

A client just installed Contribute CS5 and is getting a message that "this page is locked" and that I am editing it in Dreamweaver which I'm not.  I did not give her a Key and did not turn on or off check out files.  Is there something I forgot to do in set up or something I need to do on my end?  I've never set up Contribute for a client before.

      Thanks so much in advance!

are you using WebDAV or something else (FTP) to log into the site? It sounds like a file is either still in review (which I doubt if you were the only other preson working on the site before) or a page is still mistakenly still checked in, either by still having a .lck file on the server if you're using FTP or some sort of WebDAV lock if you're connecting via that method.

If you are editing it in dreamweaver, remember that it doesn't have to be open in the window to still be checked out, so remember to actually check it back in on Dreamweaver if you haven't already. You could also check on Dreamweaver to see if it's giving you any information about who/what may have the file checked out, if it's checked out at all.

I've never run into anything during setup that would result in someone getting an error like that, so like I said, I'm guessing either some fire Contribute "forgot" to check back in or something that's still checked out by dreamweaver somehow.

            I'm using FTP.

I haven't enabled check-in and check-out files so do I still need to do the checking in or checking out?  I just opened the file in question and it didn't give me anything or tell me who has it checked out.  Can you tell me how to do the checking-in and checking-out in DW if I need to?  Have never done that.

            Thanks for your help.
