Random "Success" or "Failure" Captions on Question Slides

    KGTS Community Member

      Hello.

We are having an issue in our training development group with the Question slides.
We are all using Captivate 5. I use Windows XP, the other developer uses Windows 7. We both got the latest Adobe Flash player.

We created a few quiz projects in Captivate 5. Published them.
Did not import the published file anywhere (no LMS, no Servers, nothing....), the file is playing locally on our computers.

When a user answers a question correctly, sometimes he gets a pop up saying that he answered correctly, sometimes he does not (nothing appear on the screen). Sometimes he gets a pop up that he answered incorrectly, sometimes he does not (nothing appear on the screen). Sometimes, when he clicks the "Submit" button, the slides progress, sometimes they do not, and we have to click the skip button to progress forward.
We have the Quiz Properties set up to display pop ups when a person  answers correctly or when a person answers incorrectly, or when he does  not answer prompting him to answer the question. We've tried to set up  the test with just 1 attempt and with infinite attempts, with and  without the retry message, the issue remained. When I say "sometimes" I  mean that the issue is random.... I can't predict which pop ups will  appear or not appear on which slides. All I know that I have all the  slides set up the same way. So does the other developer.
We also had to remove the "Back" button and prevent users from moving  backwards through the quiz, because as soon as they did, just once, the  tool thinks that the user already took the quiz and populates all of the  review areas, even in the questions that the user did not have the  opportunity to view or answer.

We've tried to turn "on" and turn "off" the Quiz reporting settings in the preferences (didn't make a difference).
We've tried to turn "on" and "off" the ability to move backwards (didn't make a difference either).

This problem has persisted in multiple projects for several weeks.
      Is this a known issue?
Is there a workaround? If so, what is it?

Below is the screen shots with the current settings.

We cannot really provide quizzes to customers if they do not function as intended.... and we are talking about fairly basic functionality.

Thank you for any help that anyone can provide.

          Hi,

Try the workflow after deleting the preferences folder.

Depending on your OS you can find the "Captivate 5" folder as specified below, delete it while CP is closed and then try to restart CP which will create a fresh Preferences folder:

          - on Xp: C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Captivate 5
          - on Vista/Win7:C:\Users\<USER NAME>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Captivate 5
If the issue still persists, then would it be possible to share the cptx file which has the issue? so that we can investigate and try to figure out the cause for it.
          Thanks,
          Vikranth.

I am not sure why correct answer caption won't show up sometimes, but incorrect answer caption does not show if the question has few attempts left. But looks like you have already checked these quiz properties of all questions. Your screenshot also displays a single attempt.

Could you please share your project?

I can make out the reason for review messages appearing when user goes "back" in the quiz. This is not an issue but the design. It goes like this-

Say you have 5 slides in the project.

1st is normal slide and quiz starts from 2nd slide.

Now when you click back on seciond slide, Captivate interprets that you have come out of the quiz which means you have attemptes quiz once. Now if you have set a single quiz attempt in Quiz->Preferences, then review message will appear for all the questions.

On the other hand, if 3rd slide is also a question slide and user clicks Back on 3rd slide and reaches 2nd slide, then moves forward, review messages won't appear.

            Regards,

            vb

              Good morning.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that we have done the steps that you are

              suggesting already.

Yes, it is possible to share the project.

Let me try to compress it and send it to you.

              Thank you

In Question slide, select each answer one by one and check "Advanced Answer Options" accordian in Properties panel. If it is checked and you don't need it, please clear this checkbox.

Let me know if it resolves your issue..
