I install adobe reader and immediately all icons, shorcuts and executables change to the adobe pdf icon, and will not launch. The only event log error is Event id 11 Source Wininit and the message is
" Custom dynamic link libraries are being loaded for every application. The system administrator should review the list of libraries to ensure they are related to trusted applications."
Win 7 64bit.
I have checked for spy / Mal ware and virus's, all clean!
Ran SFC all clean
Ran Chkdsk all Clean
If i remove the reader, it reverts to be just fine.
This is NOT caused by Adobe Reader. It is a WINDOWS file association problem and it is most likely caused by a rootkit. When I went through this last week it was. Neither Microsoft Security Essentials nor AVG could find the rootkit, so it doesn't surprise me that your A/V didn't either.
Hit that page and download the file from the LNK link in the middle of the table there. Follow the instructions to merge it into your registry and you'll need to reboot for it to take effect.
Then "Google" TDSSKiller (it's from Kapsersky) download it, run it and delete any files it finds. Reboot again and you should be OK.
We have seen this a couple of times here in the forum; it occurs only on Vista and Windows 7.
From my memory, uninstalling Adobe Reader, then create a new user profile and reinstall should fix the problem.
