Check a Repeater class out.
You may even want to consider looking at the DataGroup and List classes, using a custom renderer. Displaying that
many objects is what those classes excel at.
I'm developing a Flex web app, and have to add 100's of instances of the same component, inside a vgroup. I query an sql db and with the results I keep adding the same component for each record. I get a flash 15 second timeout at about 120 records, and if I increase the timeout I get it at about 150 records for 60 seconds.
This is exactly what a DataGroup was intended for. Instead of adding and removing visual elements, you should maintaining a data state (some kind of data model class) and let the underlying DataGroup handle all the preformance considerations (IE. item renderer recycling, virtual layouts, bitmap caching, etc.).

Thanks for all the hints. Gonna check that classes out... Thanks again!
