1. Re: How to determine the order of plugin menu entries displayed in Automate menu?
Chris Cox May 25, 2011 12:15 PM (in response to Royt2011)Priority determines load order and order when checking file formats.
The plugin name determines it's position in the menu, with priority only applying if 2 items have identical names.

2. Re: How to determine the order of plugin menu entries displayed in Automate menu?
Royt2011 May 26, 2011 1:39 AM (in response to Chris Cox)Yes it is, but I think that is strange if someone would add 2 items with identical names, the user will be confused. Is there some other ways to determine the position of each menu item?
It seems the photoshop loads plugins suite by suite. If I have 2 suite named "A" and "Z", then all plugins of "A" are loaded by priority, then plugins of "B" be loaded. Can I change the loading order, other than modify the suitename?

3. Re: How to determine the order of plugin menu entries displayed in Automate menu?
Chris Cox May 26, 2011 9:02 AM (in response to Royt2011)You can get 2 identical names by mistake, with different versions of a plugin, or with overlapping functionality (such as replacement file formats).
No, there is no way to get absolute placement of menu items for a plugin.
And the reference to suites makes no sense.

4. Re: How to determine the order of plugin menu entries displayed in Automate menu?
Royt2011 May 26, 2011 10:24 AM (in response to Chris Cox)Thanks Chris. The photoshop has too many limits I think. maybe I didn't express clearly, I mean, for example, if one plugin of category "B" writes something to file system at startup and another plugin of category "A" reads the information at startup, so plugins of category "B" should be loaded first. But actually plugins of "A" will be loaded first since the category name "A" is before "B". I don't know whether category has a priority other than determined by names.

5. Re: How to determine the order of plugin menu entries displayed in Automate menu?
Chris Cox May 26, 2011 5:12 PM (in response to Royt2011)No, that still makes no sense.
The order of loading has nothing to do with menu names or filenames.

6. Re: How to determine the order of plugin menu entries displayed in Automate menu?
Royt2011 May 26, 2011 11:01 PM (in response to Chris Cox)OK, actually plugin loading order is usually not so important as menu items placement since User Interface design is concerned. But you have told "there is no way to get absolute placement of menu items for a plugin." It's really a pity for me.

Noel Carboni Jun 4, 2011 11:22 AM (in response to Royt2011)Think about the user... He need to be able to find his plug-ins in the menu, amongst a sea of others. Alphabetic organization is how that's done.
Make your plug-ins somehow into a different order and you'll confuse people who are used to seeing "B" after "A", "C" after "B", etc.

8. Re: How to determine the order of plugin menu entries displayed in Automate menu?
Royt2011 Jun 7, 2011 2:02 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)Surely in English, the menu is placed in alphabetic organization, that makes users easily find the item they want. But when translated to other language (e.g East Asain), there's not an alphabetic order (although each word of a languge has an "order" by its encoding, but unlike alphabetic langugage, that makes no sence for user to understand). So, the most reasonable thing I think I should do is to keep the menu items the same order as that in English. However, seems no way to do this.
