    PE9 slow & crashes. Display?

      Hello all,

      We have 3 brand new pc's with this hardware;

      Dell Precision T1500
Processor : One Intel Core i5-650(3.2GHz,4MB,DC)
      Memory : 6GB(3x2GB)1333MHz DDR3 NON-ECC 1 S
Media Card Reader : 19-in-1 Media Card Reader 1 S
Hard Drive : 500 GB (7200RPM) Serial ATA II with NCQ and 16MB DataBurst Cache 1 S
Raid Controller : C1 All SATA Hard Drives, NON-RAID for 1 Hard Drive 1 S
      Optical Drive : 16X DVD-ROM Drive 1 S
      Display : 22in E2210 European Black Widescreen E-Series (1680X1050) TCO03 DVI-D 1 S
      Graphics : 1 GB GDDR5 ATI FirePro V4800 - 2 DP, 1 DVI (1 DP-DVI,1 DVI-VGA adapter)
MultiMedia Video Editing : Firewire 1394A PCI Card 1 S
Operating System : Dutch Genuine Windows 7 Professional (64Bit OS)

With a new installation of Premiere Elements 9.

Both Windows & PE9 have all updates (through windows update & adobe updater).

But when scrolling trough the time line we keep getting crashes or extreme sloweness...

Even the timelines seem to fade/disolve.

Besides these problems with PE9 there is no other problem. Everything works nice & smooth.

Systems are online only 2 weeks. Secured with Microsoft Security essentials, updates & AntiMalwareBytes.

What is the installed ATI Catalyst driver on the machines? Go to the ATI/AMD Web site and check for a later one. Do not trust Windows, or any utility, to tell you if you have the latest.

While you are at it, do the same for your audio card.

This ARTICLE addresses some general causes of crashes and hangs in PrE, plus also has a bunch of links on tuning up an OS and the hardware too.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

              One hour native timeline

              Seems like DV-AVIs (native)

The system and the clips that you have beats the system requirements hands down.. So that should be no worries.

You mentioned that the application is sluggish. Is it the movement in the timeline or the monitor refreshing according to the CTI (Current Time Indicator)? If it is monitor related, the correct and accurate display drivers could solve your problems. If it is the timeline, then you could try editing with lesser clips to see if that improves the performance...

Let us know in any case.
