When I try to burn a DVD using Elements 8 it gets almost completely done and then my computer recognizes that it has a new dvd, tries to open it and elements shuts down the final steps of burning the dvd.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

This likely indicates that the program is completing its DVD transcoding, but is having trouble interfacing with the DVD burner.

This can happen if you're running Windows 7 64-bit, or it can happen if you have a program like Nero installed (which has a tendency to monopolize your burner).

In either event, the best test is to see if you can burn your DVD files to a folder on your hard drive.

If it works, you know it's a problem with the DVD burner. If not, then we'll need to dig deeper into your system with a series of troubleshooting steps.

Along with Steve's suggestion to test by doing a Burn to Folder, take a look at this ARTICLE for some possibilities, regarding your burner/multi-drive.

            Good luck,
