Harm Millaard Jun 3, 2011 10:08 AM (in response to SuperCrawler)The major problem with all these boards is only 4 DIMM slots.

Harm Millaard Jun 3, 2011 10:32 AM (in response to Scott Chichelli)I have to be patient anyway, because Areca does not expect the new generation of PCIe-3 boards before Q1/2012. But it would be nice to know if the higher level Gigabyte boards, UD5/7/9 are planned to use more DIMM slots.

Scott Chichelli Jun 3, 2011 10:51 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)Gee wiz Harm like your raid array isn’t fast enough already?
The 4 slots is a chipset limitation not board manufacturer.
To get more than 4 its dual Xeon
Educated guess not facts set in stone.

SuperCrawler Jun 8, 2011 5:16 PM (in response to Harm Millaard)If on-board raid controllers support RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5 and RAID 1+0, and I have 14 SATA ports, as on the GA-X79A-UD3, and I use 2 of them for BR burners, and one for the boot disk, and I add a hardware controller from Areca for RAID 3 or RAID 3+0, then the remaining 11 SATA ports and the on-board raid controller serve me no purpose.
