    Take over the Structure Pane

    Rob PBW

I'm new to InDesign scripting and want to take over or replace the functions of the "Structure" pane. RIght now, you can pretty much do anything with that pane but I want it to be limited to my rules. Does anyone know if it's possible to either...

      1. Capture the events and dialogs of the Structure Pane so that I can do things such as limit the allowed tags, have readonly attribute values, disallow changing of tags, disable/add to the right-click options in the Structure Pane, etc

      2. Recreate my own Structure Pane and related dialogs by somehow accessing the XML Tags (I know how to create dialogs, but what Javascript object do I work with to access the underlying XML) ? I'd need the ability to create/insert new tags, attributes, etc., and show them in a similar tree structure.

      3. Or maybe there's another way to do this that I don't know about?

If you could just tell me what's possible and where I should start, it would be very helpful. Thank you!
