    File corrupted -- related to gradient?

      I am a new user to CS5 InDesign. I seem to have had the same problem as http://forums.adobe.com/message/1910915#1910915. I created a simple design and exported it as PDF with no problem. The printer informed me I have to export it again to PDF with the bleed option indicated.  Now I can't properly open any versions of the original ID file (I kept several). Sometimes I can't get anything but the frame outlines. Othertimes I get the complete design, but the background gradient has turned to black. When I try to edit the gradient or create a new gradient, the program crashes.

       

      If I can't get back the original files, can anyone suggest what to do with the PDF to add a 1/8" bleed?
