1. Re: 30p footage in 24p timeline - CS4
markerline Jun 14, 2011 8:45 AM (in response to jackdelamare)It's not obvious that you're running Premiere Pro CS4 because the forum is CS4 or "earlier"
Are you also talking here about the frame-rate as opposed to the pixel resolution of your video?

jackdelamare Jun 14, 2011 8:54 AM (in response to markerline)I meant it was obvious because I put "CS4" in the title of the thread.
Talking about frame-rate yes, the Sony footage is all 60i (sorry I put 30i before) - 30fps, and the Canon 550D is 24fps.

markerline Jun 14, 2011 10:09 AM (in response to jackdelamare)Yes it's obvious that I totally missed the thread title.
I don't know how to do this in Premiere yet but it is possible in After Effects to Stretch (greater than 100%) or Shrink (less than 100%) the footage. If you can find this out in Premiere's Help docs you will be able to match the 30 to the 24 or the other way around... match the 24 to the 30.
One note to be stated. There is an industry accepted way to do this as I remember reading in a blog about matching video of differing frame rates. Please research whether it's better to upscale to 30fps or downscale to 24fps. I imagine there might be some details pertaining to the interpolation of footage when you upscale 24fps to 30fps as it is impossible to generate real new frames that don't exist. Similar to upscaling a 72dpi photo in Photoshop to 300dpi. You can never truly generate a higher quality photo from a lower quality one.

30i is actually the correct way to both say and write it. Following convention, 60i technically means 60 interlaced frames per second, and there is no such thing.
