Video Stutters in Source window, in Playback and in Bridge

I'm using the trial version of Premiere Pro CS5.5, running it on a MacBook Pro: 2.6 GHz Intel Core Duo, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT, 200 GB Hitachi hard drive with 50 GB of hard drive space remaining. My monitor is an Eizo FlexScan SX2262W. I'm editing 1920x1080 HD @ 24fps captured on a DSLR (Nikon D7000). The footage plays fine in Quicktime and also Lightroom, but in Premiere Pro it stutters when played in the source window or on playback, and also when I view it in Bridge. I read one post that suggested rendering the footage. This worked for the footage in playback, but not for the footage in the source window. What is causing the stutter and is there a way around it without having to render everything first?

I'm a still photographer coming to video and am not very techie.
