Adding a hyperlink to text in a Master Slide (V5)

I have a master slide that contains a web url (in text). As the Click Box Option isn't allowed on a master slide (not sure why?), is there any way of creating a hyperlink to the text in that master slide, rather than me having to manually add the click box to the slide when used in the project?

Hi Mark

Likely you don't realize it, but you answered your own question when you said: ...As the Click Box Option isn't allowed on a master slide...

A Click Box or a Button would be the only way I could fathom getting the link in there.

I see we are able to insert Widgets on a Master slide. I'm not sure, but Rod Ward's Event Handler widget might be used for such a thing.

Hi Rick,

Sorry, but the Eventhandler widget is an interactive, not a static widget. And you can only add static widgets to a master slide. There is a hybrid widget (call it that way) in Cp5, the Buttons widget, that is a static widget but has nice navigation functionalities and even a pausing point at 6.5secs, that can be inserted on a master slide. But no way for the interactive widgets.

Ok, so my workaround (sort of) is to modify my template to include an already configured slide with the Click Box configured. As this will be the end slide for each project, I guess it shouldn't cause too many problems. I don't suppose this functionality has been added to 5.5?

Thanks for your replies.

Hello,

No buttons or other interactive objects on master slides possible yet in CP5.5. The button widget I mentioned in my previous answer isn't even included anymore, has been replaced by a static widget (without pausing but with navigational functionality, not really very useful on a master slide) and an interactive version (that cannot be inserted on a master slide).

I've put it in as a feature request. Seems to me an obvious thing you would like to do on a master slide.

Cheers

Actually, not being able to add interactive objects per se to a Master Slide is a major limitation for Captivate.

Master Slides would be the logical place to be able to put any repeating navigation elements that you wanted to have appear on all slides.  But since those elements would, of necessity, be interactive, Captivate deosn't allow them there.  The other problem is that you cannot set interactive objects to repeat for the rest of the project either.  So both of the methods you might want to use for navigation are locked out.

I'd like to see something in Cp6 that allowed users to define interactive navigation in a way that allowed it to be repeated across multiple slides.  Either we need to allow interactive elements on Master Slides, make them able to be set to repeat for X number of slides, or else have some other type of object entirely that is specialised for navigation and will float over the top of all content on slides that are set for it to appear.
