    AIR is not loaded properly

      Hi,

       

           This technique of submitting a question is another reason to be unhappy with Adobe.

       

           I purchased earlier versions of Adobe Premiere and Photoshop a couple of years back.  I never managed to get Premiere working.  I wouldn't guarantee the Photoshop was working optimally either.  I decided to upgrade to Adobe Premiere and Photoshop 9, with the hope to finally finish some projects.  I've struggled with Adobe Premiere occasionally, and finally decided to work with the program until I finally manage to edit a movie - the only project I expect to undertake with Adobe Premiere.

       

           What I am attempting to do is brighten segments of some old 8mm films that Costco copied to a disk for me.   When clicking on Edit - Effects - Brightness & Contrast the only thing that occurs is the image darkens - it will not brighten.  I downloaded the Premiere 9 manual from your site.  Page 152 talks about using the "Properties view".  The manual shows a "Brightness and Contrast" section under that section.  The Adobe Premier on my computer does not have that option.

       

           I tried to use the Adobe Premiere "Help" option.  The program reports back Adobe AIR - The installation  of this application is damaged.  Try re-installing or contacting the purblisher for assistance.  I have uninstalled the module - restarted my computer - and reinstalled AIR.  I have exactly the same problem.

       

           Help, please.  Answers to any of my problems will be appreciated.

          If you have never been able to get any version of the program workiing on your machine, you problem is likely too deep for us to troubleshoot on this forum, 123.

           

          Although, having Costco digitize your video is likely a big contributor to your problems. Most likely they did not save the video as DV-AVIs.

           

          Another likely contributor is the fact that you've apparently opened a project created in an older version of the program with a newer version of the program -- a definite no-no.

           

          By the way, you refer to "your manual." This forum is not run by Adobe. It's run by volunteers around the world who are eager to help people work through their issues. So please save the vitriol for Adobe. We're here dozens of hours of week for no compensation whatsoever.

           

          Anyway and regardless, I think you're going to need to contact Adobe -- or have somebody give your system a good going-over. (Here's what I do every week on my computer, and I haven't had a serious issue in over 5 years -- AND every version of the program runs on my computer: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/390602?tstart=30 )

           

          Otherwise, you're probably going to have to work through Adobe Tech Support. You've got some serious problems on your computer and you need to address them.

            Along with Steve's tips, there are some more to look into, in the links in this ARTICLE.

             

            As for your Effects controls, I think that the Effect is just closed in the Effects Control Panel. Look to the left of the Effect's name, and there is a little arrow. If it's pointing left, then it's closed. Click on it, to twirl open the Effect, and you should get the control sliders.

             

            Here is a look from PrE 4, but PrE 9 should be the same in this respect:

              Hi,

               

              Thanks for the input.  I'm sure my computer is working fine.  As a subscriber to Comcast, I have Norton's security suite loaded on my computer.  I also use Belarc and Secunia so all is well.  All is not so well with my Adobe travails.  Your quick responses gave me inspiration to look at Adobe's site again.  Then I thought of YouTube.  I've been using YouTube to repair cameras, small engine carburators, and various other tasks.  I found two groups of videos that are proving valuable.  Maybe one should take a class before purchasing the software.  But, it would be nice if my Adobe Premiere help function worked.  Anyway, thanks to YouTube, I am expecting to complete my project this evening or tomorrow.

                That does not diminish tutorials on YouTube, and other outlets, but just offers some good resources.

                  I'm glad you've found a solution.

                   

                  But, meantime, I'd very much recommend that you remove Norton as soon as possible -- a program so disruptive that many computer experts consider it a virtual virus. It has definitely been known to conflict with, interrupt and destroy video work.

                   

                  A much better solution is Avast! Free or even Microsoft's Security Essentials -- both free, unintrusive and excellent security software apps.
