Back in the Xpress days, there was a key command which allowed you to click on a para of text, holding a combo of keys pressed, then click onto different para of text and the style attributes of the former would be taken by the latter.
Can Indesign do this?
I've been meaning to ask this question for years now! Just got a loads of text to change and remembered this old trick from Xpress days.
Use the eyedropper tool, but honestly, you'd do a lot better using styles.
If you apply a character style to the text first (say if you have "this text is supposed to be bold"
Then make a character style called Bold and apply it to the word "bold"
Then use the Eyedropper tool to sample that and apply that same Character Style to whatever text you like.
Ps - if you double click the Eyedropper tool you get all the options associated with what the tool will sample, so you can tweak to your desire.
