    Reader 9.4.4 won't update and AdobeARM.exe doesn't terminate.

    Anaximander_of_Miletus

      Two problems.

      1.  On Windows 2000 Pro, SvcPk 4, installation, Adobe Reader 9.4.4 Updater erroneously reports "No updates available", failing to update to 9.4.5.

      2.  After running Updater, AdobeARM.exe fails to close, even if Reader is closed and Windows is rebooted, necessitating that it be terminated using "End Process" in Windows Task Manager before Updater can be run again.

If you can provide AdobeARM.log file from User Temp folder, I can take a look at this issue.

That is indeed strange - for your product configuration there is 9.4.5 update in the Manifest.

The only reason for this issue I can think of is that somehow Updater is using cached Manifest.

Can you please cleanup your browser cache and try again?

For the issue number 2 I can suggest the following-

On a different system (not w2k) download and install latest Reader 10.1

Copy all Updater files except armsvc.exe file from ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Adobe\ARM\1.0

replace old Updater version 1.4.7.0 on your w2k system with new Updater files - they all must have version 1.5.5.0

There is no guarantee that new files will fix this issue, but it worth to try.

              Good luck.

                Hi,

Can you try and terminate the AdobeARM.exe process from the Task Manager. Afterwards, launch Adobe Reader and click on Help > Check For Updates. It should download the 9.4.5 update and install the same.

From the look of things, as LeoAdobeX stated, it does seem that the manifest for 9.4.4 was still in the system download queue and the same was used when updater was run for the first time.

Do let us know if it does not work again.

                Thanks

                Ankit
