I'm having the same issue too! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
InDesign's animation capabilities are relatively simple. If you don't see controls for doing what you want, those controls probably aren't there.
For more advanced capabilities, you should be learning Flash Professional. Flash Professional gives you the ability to write ActionScript which gives you much more control.
I could be wrong, but hopefully Petteri Paananen, our animation expert, will step in here to answer this question.
Looping is really painful in indesign. It´s almost impossible to combine multiple animations to some kind of timing order and loop that combination... every time I have had a need for that, I have ended up making new motion preset in Flash Professionals Motion Editor and imported that preset into InDesign. With Motion Editor you can create more complex timings....

And of course you can prepapre whole animation in Flash as Steve suggested.... and place it into InDesign later...
