This may have been asked and answered before, but can anyone tell me if it is possible to have a computer-generated consecutive number automatically added to a form when it is either opened up or submitted? I am creating an accession record form for use by several staff members on which each new accession (gift or purchase) is assigned a unique identifing number. The form records all pertinent information and in our old system (i.e., typed form), the forms were maintained by the office secretary. She printed out X number of forms at the beginning of the year and manually assigned each form a different acquisition number. We want to make this procedure as automated as possible, but this has me stumped.
I'd appreciate any help on this.
There is no way to do this automatically. The workaround would be to add a column to the response table and manually type in a number as you receive the forms. Its a lot better than using paper but still requires a manual step.
I was afraid of that. I was thinking of something along those lines, but was hoping there was a way to do it automatically.
