Shared Network PDF Review Problems (unpublished comments)

    RichardM0701 Community Member

      Hi,

We are experimenting with the Shared Network Reviews. We have recently run into some problems which are very odd and hard to figure out the source of the problem.

Facts: The initiators of the review are using Acrobat 9.0, Window 7 x86. The reviewers are using Reader 9, X, and Acrobat 9. The shared reviews are being stored on a network with everyone having write access.

Problem 1: Comments are disappearing from the PDF. When someone does thier review, a comments folder is created with thier name, some computers will pull up the comments and on others it won’t (hit and miss).

Problem 2: When I open the shared review PDF it connects fine, but when I close the file, even if I did not input any comments, it says there are unpublished comments by another person, to publish these comments with your name, press ok (see screenshot below). It then will not let you close the PDF without pushing publish comments and the scary thing is, we checked and there are no comments being published. After I push publish comments, I then get an error message that the document could not be saved (see screenshot below). I am then forced to ctrl+alt+del to get out of the file.

Has anyone experienced these errors or know what might be causing them?

Can you provide more details on how are you creating the shared reviews? Is the source file located at the same server where you are creating the review? These details would help us drill down on the issue.

Sure, and thank you for replying.

To make the shared review the process we use goes like this:

            1. Select the "Send for Shared Review" selection under the comments tab.

            2. Select Internal Server from the drop down.

            3. Select "Network Drive" to place the review

            4. Select the shared network folder you wish to place the file. Note: We work in a very large organization (1000+) where the network drive is huge! Not sure what type of server is backing this drive.

            5. When the next menu asks who to share the review with, select "save a copy to send manually later". Save this manual PDF (_review.pdf) to the same folder where the reviews are being published.

            6. When the email dialog box appears, do not put any emails in it because we are using the manual file to open and connect to the shared review so just push OK. (We don’t use this because we have had no luck with Acrobat actually sending out the review email. Earlier versions worked, but not anymore.

            7. Save profile.

            8. Open the manuually saved _review.pdf file and check connectivity.

The folder end up looking like this. The _review.pdf files are the network shared files.

For Problem #2: Can you check if you have write permissions to the network folder where your review PDF is stored? This error is thrown when the reviewer opens the review PDF from a location where he has read access but no write access, and he tries to publish comments.

                Hi Amboo,

Yes, I have confirmed we do all have read/write access.

Question: Windows 7 has a new preview pane that allows us to preview the PDF document in the folder. If this is previewing the PDF, does it status the PDF as open and thus read only? I have noticed some errors with Word files when the preview pane is open.See below.
