as a quick fix try wrapping it in a UIComponent, eg:
<UIComponent width="yourSwfWidth" height="yourSwfHeight">
(basically, you cant use pure flash objects inside most flex components - obviously UIComponent is one that you can; if you had strict error checking on, it probably wouldnt even compile)
Really, a SWF?
I was going on the assumption that I had to export a SWC file from Flash Pro cs5 and then go through the build path routine in FB. At least that was according to an apparently outdated video I saw on Adobe Evangelists.
The thing was, after doing that I couldn't address the animation with mxml code.
I'll try the SWF thing then.
What about using the Catalyst route? Will the animation compile correctly there?
Thank you for your efforts.
I'm still trying to get some concise info about creating components in Flash Pro cs5, and getting them into Flex 4.5.
I published a SWC from Flash, established the build path for it in FB, and then the code completion didn't work because FB didn't seem to recognize it's existence.
Is there something RECENT about creating components in Flash cs5? Because I've searched and searched and all I find is something that probably dates back to at least Flash cs4 and maybe earlier. It's an Adobe Evangelist video by Serge Jespers.
I believe I found help on the subject at this link:
Thank you very much for your help Lee.
in the original swf you created, is the whole swf the animation or is the animation an asset in the library of your swf?
if its the whole swf, that's probably the issue - make sure the animation is a movieclip in the library, give it a class name and then export the swc.
