What is the CODEC of the file that won't open?
Read Bill Hunt on a file type as WRAPPER http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037?tstart=0
What is a CODEC... a Primer http://forums.adobe.com/thread/546811?tstart=0
What CODEC is INSIDE that file? http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037?tstart=0
Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below
For PC http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ or http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en
For Mac http://mediainfo.massanti.com/
Once you know exactly what it is you are editing, report back with that information... and your project setting, and if there is a red line
above the video in the timeline, which indicates a mismatch between video and project
Also, if that file ends in MOV you need to have Quicktime installed
this is a file from my 'Adobe classroom in a book' DVD - it has a .prproj extension. So its Adobe's own file. I thought someone here would KNOW Adobe's own files that it supplies in its tutorials. thanks for your time. Thanks for the stuff on codecs but I do not have the time to read all those links you sent. cheers.
I am using the book and files in a full version of 5.5. When
I open a lesson project, I get a message that the files must be updated to the l
atest version, clicking yes updates the files.
Can anyone answer the question if this
update capability is in the Demo version of 5.5?
yes it seems that the Demo version does not do the update. I just checked again, same as before. I click on the project file, it comes up with a message 'file format not recognised', I hit OK and the file opens anyway, minus the graphics in the editing windows. So I hope some Adobe techo sees this because I cannot really proceed to fully benefit from this demo without the graphics. Or perhaps it is intentionally disabled by Adobe? I don't know, just speculating here.
Just in case the sample files are MOV, what version of Quicktime do you have installed?
