    Video Isssue.. large black borders?

    MSTG2000

      hey there folks,

I just finished a video, saved in WMV format, and made sure it was saved with the actual size as the project media..

but, I seem to be getting a big black border around the video?

      dead_video_space.jpg

Resizing the window leaves a sizable margin around my video, and that's not going to look good blown up full size or projected onto a screen.

      any ideas?

          What is your source video?

          What is your project setting?

          What is your output setting?

in basics, the video being saved is not what's being shown in the preview window.

preview window has video edge to edge (horizontally) but premiere is adding a big black area on the sides when saving as wmv

shouldnt the monitor preview be what is being saved?

in the image i uploaded.. the "monitor" preview is what is showing the blue-tinted area.  but premiere is adding the area hilighted in red

saved the video as a FLV and have no issues.. but i want it as a wmv, which has the cropping issue

You still are not providing information

If you lay a postcard (your file) on an 8x10 picture frame (your project) you will have a border

You still need to describe what you are using

                        Video

                        Width                            : 1 600 pixels
                        Height                           : 900 pixels

                        Project

                        Frame size: 720 x 480

Your project and video do not match... I also think your file said 25fps (can't see if from this reply screen) and your project is 29.97

I'm not sure how you create a custom project (check the help file) but you have what looks like a mismatch

Unfortunately, in PrE, one cannot create a "custom" Preset to match odd footage, like in PrPro, where one can choose the Desktop Preset, and then adjust most parameters.

Some have created a few "semi-custom" Presets for PrE, but those do not work for everyone.

I have submitted a Feature Request for a Custom/Desktop Preset for PrE, but so far, I have not seen that in PrE. Maybe PrE 10?

                          Good luck,

OK, after experimenting with settings.. I found that it IS indeed a ratio thing.  Instead of a 16:9 widescreen, I saved in a more traditional, more-square, ratio and the video is now edge-to-edge.. though far too tall for my tastes, with lots of empty space at the top and bottom.. which there was a way to crop top and bottom out
