Trying to Create a DVD from Slideshows using Windows 7

I created 10 slideshows using Adobe Elements 8.0.   I tried to create a DVD with menu.   These slideshows were copied to Adobe Premiere Elements 8.0 where i created the dvd.   When trying to actually burn the dvd,   i get the "Encoding Media" screen and it takes over 22 hours to encode the data.   Any idea what's going on?   I have no clue.   I'm running on a new HP Laptop with 8.0 gig of memory.   I"m running Windows 7.       Any input/suggestions would be appreciated.    I did this 2 different ways.  Once with the "best fit" box checked,  and one with it not checked.  Same results.
