I think I posted this in the wrong forum, and hopefully this is the correct one.
I am thinking about buying an HD camera, but still have and will use two very good standard def ones: Sony PD170 and VX2100. Will it be possible to capture video from the high camera and put video from both high and standard def cameras on the same premiere pro cs5 timeline?
Yes, you'll be able to that, but your sequence settings will probably have to be constrained to the "lowest common denominator"--meaning you'll want to edit SD sequences and scale down your HD footage for consistent quality in your exports.
There may also be a pixel aspect ratio discrepancy between the HD and SD cameras, assuming the SD cams are DV.
Yes you can combine them but i would not advise it because the footage of the 2100 looks terrible compaired to sd footage downconverted from a hd camera.
There is so much difference in quanlity as HD camera's have real 16:9 chips while the 2100/170 has a 4:3 chip which makes SD widescreen loose quality,
