I like to record uncompressed HD footage via the AJA KiPro Mini and use the ProRes encoded material in Premier Pro.
This is contradictory. It either is uncompressed, or it is an intermediate format like ProRes.
The specification (HD-SDI), is standardized in SMPTE 292M and the camera data sheet implies that it meets "HD-SDI (SMPTE 292M, ITU-R BT.656)" Therefore I would say it is safe to say that it is carrying the audio.
Canon XL H1 does not have embedded audio. Next model XL H1S has embedded audio.
I am glad someone knows the correct answer. Thank you.
I agree Harm. The SDI output provides uncompressed video which then gets compressed with ProRes422 (HQ) via the AJA KiPro Mini, which I am in the process of buying. Haven't got an SDI input card on my PC to be able to test whether audio would be embedded, hence the question whether somebody owns an XL H1 and has some experience.
