    Forcing OpenGL

Is there a way to "force" OpenGL in CS5?

Built a 2nd machine, rolled some cards into it from an old build where OpenGL was present and working... and now its greyed out.

      Machine spec:

      Windows XP 64bit

      6gb RAM

      Dual Quad 2.13GHz Xeon

      Dual ATI FireGL V3750

Running 3 of the 4 available monitors.

Now this is primarily a test machine, so its not a big deal, but I can't find a reason for the OpenGL to not be working... this exact same hardware had OpenGL enabled when it was running 32bit XP.

Forcing GL to enable is just a diagnostic/debugging tool for video card makers.

It is not something that an end user should be doing -- the video card driver has told Photoshop that it is not capable of the task, so trying to force it is a really bad idea.

            Thanks Chris,

            That's understandable.

So I suppose the more important problem is:

Why isn't it working by default?

Less than 2 weeks ago this machine was performing wonderfully with OpenGL, in a 32bit enviroment... with the exact same hardware.

Rolled it to a 64bit in order to expand the available memory... and suddenly it's not playing nice.

The FireGL V3750 is on the list of supported cards.

I have tried not only the most up-to-date drivers available from AMD... but also various older releases.

            Nothing seems to be working.

Is the 64bit XP an issue?

Because something in your driver is telling Photoshop that it doesn't work.

Yes, XP64 is a big issue -- lots of things don't work correctly on XP64, including OpenGL. We highly recommend moving to Windows 7 64 bit.

                Thanks Chris.

                That helps quite a bit.
