Just getting into PP and AE. I'm hoping I'm doing something wrong here.
I have 3 clips on the timeline. Each has a cross-disolve on it. I use the 'replace with AE' from the dynamic link menu on the middle clip, and save it. It opens in AE...
I do my AE magic to it, and save.
Back in PP, the cross disolve no longer dissolves to the middle clip, but rather dissolves to black, and then the middle clip cuts in..plays...cuts out... and then the final clip dissolves in...
Is PP not smart enough to know that I need the media under the transitions as well, or am I doing something wrong here?
Unfortunately AE does not know you need the handles.
One way of tackeling this is to create handles in AE by extending the composition and then making the clip longer either side.
Back in Premiere set the clip to its right position with the slip tool and add the transitions again.
OR start your dissolve at the END ( you have 3 choice as to where the dissolve starts in your effects menu) of the previous clip which will use the beginning of your DL clip as the handle it needs.
Another option is to make the clip longer than you need, do your Replace actions, then come back to PP and shorten the clip to the right length and add transitions.
