    1080i Format

    OzHP Level 1

      Hello

I'm using PPr CS5 and my camcorder is a Sony HVR Z1e. I always thought that the settings for 1080i were 1080x1920. However when I check out my dimensions they are 1080x1440 (1.3333). Does that mean I can't get full HD? Furthermore when I import clips captured and saved from earlier projects they import at 720x576 (1.4587) even though I captured them using the PrP HDV capture setting and sequenced as 1080. Why is this?

      Cheers

      Ossie

HDV is 1440x1080 with non-square pixels. You can either use an HDV sequence (1440x1080 with non-square pixels) or a full-raster HD sequence (1920x1080 with square pixels). It doesn't really matter, either way.

Are you sure you actually captured them as HDV, and didn't downconvert on the fly to DV from the camera? Grab MediaInfo and check the properties of one of your original clips.

Many thanks Colin; so I can set up a sequence with 1080x1920 for my 1080i footage.

One more quick question. I'm shortly going to get a smaller HD camcorder so I can keep it with me on the move. The ones I've looked at are 1080p. Does that mean I could set up a sequence 1080x1920 and import both the 1080i and 1080p capture to the same sequence (or am I confusing all this)?

To make sure your sequence matches your video file...

Also, I have read previous messages saying that you need to film in 1080i and NOT 1080p due to editing problems

There are special HDV presets use the 1080i and drop everything in there.

1080p from a hdv camera is put as interlaced on the tape anyway.
