open Notepad (assuming WIndows OS: either via startup menu Start>Programs ..... or type "Notepad" into "Run" feature) and paste content copied from Excel. What do you see? If text is not pasted with multilines preserved - you won't achieve that in flash.display.TextField (if they are multiline/word wrap of course) as well as /r and /n are absent in content in system clipboard.
This is on a mac.
If I paste the excel columns in to a text editor they are fine.
If I paste from number in to flex it works, it just seems to be the combination of excel and flex.
In the flex gui the paste looks like there on individual lines with in the text area, but if I Alert.show(textarea.text) it shows as just one long string
I'm experiencing the same issue (no line breaks) when pasting rows directly from Excel (2008 & 2011) into a Flex TextArea on a Mac. However, when pasting the exact same data from a Windows Excel spreadsheet, it contains the line breaks.
From Mac: Customer\tPhoneCustomer 1\t555-555-5555Customer 2\t555-555-5556
From Windows: Customer\tPhone\rCustomer 1\t555-555-5555\rCustomer 2\t555-555-5556\r
This appears to be a bug in a flash.display class as pasting the data from Excel to a text editor and then copying/pasting into the same Flex TextArea preserves the original line breaks.
Has anyone figured out a work around?
I assume you are using Excel on Mac to copy to the clipboard? If it puts up
data with different or no line endings, there isn't much Flash can do about
it. You can scan the string and insert your own line breaks.
