I have one quick question:
Would it be possible to create a style where it has a background color that goes across the screen? (see the attachment)
At work, I was given some material where this coloring was done. It was done in MS Word, but it was attached directly to the text. I want to do that since I am creating a number of templates, and the way I am doing it right now is not very practical (content in text box, and a second, colored text box, is placed under it). Would it be possible to do what I am trying to do? The search lead me to highlighting text via using underline + changing weight and offset, but I need the coloration to go the entire length of the page.

Use a paragraph rule. Set the thickness and offset appropriately.
Note that this will only work well with a one line paragraph.
