Omke Oudeman Jul 16, 2011 4:03 AM (in response to Muppet Mark)Can any one try this and see if its a mac issue… Im CS5 on iMac with 10.5.8
Same result here, they files from folders with an Apostrophe disappear form the collection after restarting Bridge, MacPro 10.6.8 CS5.
It is not an issue for me because I never use characters like comma, apostrophe, space or dot other then the one in front of the extension but in today's system you would expect to allow a bit more then in the early days

Muppet Mark Jul 16, 2011 5:08 AM (in response to Omke Oudeman)Thanks for testing Omke, so its NOT just my install… I have no control over other users methods and renaming directories would require a lot of remapping which I ain't going to do… I will just make a note of the issue to accompany the script. I did try a couple of other punctuation characters and they were fine… It's a legal character…

Actually, removing the apostrophes from folder names is really a piece of cake with 'A better finder rename8'. Choose main folder and option for subfolders and content, choose character, choose remove and fill in the character(s) you need to remove, check the example of the new filename and when satisfied hit rename all and there all gone
Sadly enough the prior collection doesn't restore with the files from the renamed folders after having the Apostrophes, but knowing it you can take action before making collections

Muppet Mark Jul 16, 2011 7:13 AM (in response to Omke Oudeman)What my scripts are for is quickly over viewing all the links of both Indesign & Illustrator artwork files… Directory renaming would break all the links in the artwork to their original source… It is that re-mapping that I do NOT wish to do… I will just disclaim the issue… I could rename from the script… But I ain't going to…

Curt Y Jul 21, 2011 7:18 PM (in response to Omke Oudeman)This is a Windows issue also. It has to do with prohibited characters naming files
in the OS. Don't know if Mac has the same probitited characters or not.
Or it may be that to make files compatable with both systems they have a common set of prohibited characters.

Muppet Mark Jul 22, 2011 1:58 AM (in response to Curt Y)Curt, thanks for getting back about Windows (I don't have a box to test on). That said I wouldn't know how the hell to test anyhow (where's the on button). As far as Im aware the only characters my mac OS does not permit are ':' & '/' the delimiting characters for HFS and POSIX paths… On Windows I would have expected '/' & '\'… That said if they were 'invalid paths' then not only would I expect a script error at adding the items to a Collection and the other apps involved to not even have these file paths in them… But this does not happen the items are all correctly added and can be very quickly accessed/used… drag and drop from Bridge to Illustrator or Mini-Bridge to Indesign… This is all up until application quit… On re-launch it is where all the items from these sources vanish out of the Collection without trace… Here are links to the first drafts of the two scripts in question if you test them you will see all the items added…
