That said, you're not losing a lot by not having OpenGL features. See this video for an explanation of what is accelerated by OpenGL:
I am aware of the benefits and problems with using openGL, as i used to pull my
hair out with all the crashes until it became more stable. It could just be my
own opinion but I think there should be more support for the newer cards. Also,
I'm a big fan of Video Copilot, and their new plugin, Element 3D, requires
openGL to use.

OpenGL in plug-ins has nothing to do with AE's own OpenGL. Whatever OpenGL support they require has to come from them and will function independently. This is no different thani t already is with Optical Flares, Magic Bullet Looks or otehr OpenGL-driven third-party plug-ins.
