You probably have a 32-bit computer system. Premiere Pro CS5 and After Effects CS5 (and later) require a 64-bit computer system.
See the system requirements:
Thanks for the reply. No, my computer is a 64-bit system (dual core processor). It meets all the required specs for the program and has no issues running any other aspect of the suite. It's only Premiere, which doesn't even seem to be an option to install. Any other suggestions?
>MacBook Pro running OSX 10.5
Disclaimer... I'm on Win7
So, your hardware AND operating system are BOTH 64bit?
If that MacBook is a laptop, does the screen meet the pixel requirement? (from another discussion... 1280x900 display with OpenGL 2.0-compatible graphics card)
> No, my computer is a 64-bit system.
Are you 100% certain of that?
What exact operating system number?
What exact CPU?
Does After Effects install and run? It's the only other 64-bit only application in the suite.
>What exact CPU?
Someplace else, I think talking about an AMD processor, I read that PPro would not install because the CPU did not have the required SSE (are those the correct initials?) commands in firmware
Do all 64bit MacBooks (if this IS a 64bit CPU) have the required firmware?
Thank you for the suggestions. I believe the computer is 64 bit but here are the specs:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro1,2
Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 2.16 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 2 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
I am running Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I do not see After Effects on the laptop, and this might indicate that I'm mistaken on the 64-bit thing.
As for graphics and screen, I'm not sure about the card but this is what I can find about it:
Chipset Model: ATY,RadeonX1600
PCIe Lane Width: x16
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
Resolution: 1680 x 1050
Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
Main Display: Yes
Please help me interpret and thank you again for the help so far...
well, i decided to not be such a noob and looked it up, looks like it is indeed a 32 bit system. thanks for the help. FYI i called adobe support with this same question and we talked for over 2 hours. none of the several consultants and supervisors i spoke with thought to ask this simple question. can you help these people out? would have saved a lot of time!
If you update to the 64-bit version of 10.6.x it may work, but it will still be devastatingly slow, due to lacking hardware.
Master Collection includes the 32Bit Premiere Pro CS4 (at least it does in mine, for Windows)
> Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
As you have already said, this is a 32-bit processor. So, there is no way to run a 64-bit application on this computer.

Sure. If you post your case number here, I can look it up and make sure that the folks that you talked to get the right information.
