Mike Gondek2 Jul 21, 2011 7:47 AM (in response to alexstk)Window >> Layer comps
Set this up, and with one click you will be able to toggel whci layers are on or off.
Out of curiosity, are you programming pages with CSS, dynamic layers or other? You cannot layer slices with transparency on top of each other in standard html. I find it so time consuming and impossible to get things registering correctly for all browsers, so try to minimize any layering technologies.

alexstk Jul 22, 2011 1:06 AM (in response to Mike Gondek2)I couldn't find "Windows > Layer Comps" in Illustrator CS5. Are you sure it's a feature of this software? I know Photoshop has it but apparently not Illustrator.

Monika Gause Jul 22, 2011 4:48 AM (in response to alexstk)There's no Layer comps in Illustrator. But you can set up layers as needed and then save a "View" in View > New View

Kurt Gold Jul 22, 2011 10:29 AM (in response to alexstk)Illustrator does offer a somewhat hidden Layer Comps property: the Variables Palette. There you can set up Layer Visibility variables and capture different Layer Visibility states.
That might be of little help in existing projects. But it could be beneficial in future projects.

Mike Gondek2 Jul 22, 2011 10:37 AM (in response to alexstk)Apologies, got a web question and forgot what forum I was on. You could use move your illustrator art to Photoshop as smart objects and shape layers. You do not need vector quality for web, but I always try for client revisions.

6. Re: save for web and devices: overlaping slices
alexstk Jul 23, 2011 1:35 AM (in response to Mike Gondek2)OK, so we have 3 solutions:
1. Using variables instead of layer compts
2. Using Views
3. Exporting to Photoshop and using its layer comps
