Prevent root folder showing all subfolder files

I am importing 700-800 pics into a directory from camera card. The pics then require grouping and moving into subfolders according to subject. Selecting the required pics in the root folder and dragging into a subfolder works ok. However when returning to the root folder it shows all the files in root and sub. This makes it very difficult to select which files have been moved and which should go next.

Is there any way of turning this off so the root folder only shows the remaining pics, as per normal windows explorer function ?.
