I've seen the multicast solution adobe have announced, but it seems i'll need a flash/coldfusion backend to make it work. I've looked all over the place for information on multicasting with flex and it seems a no go without using this new system.
What I have at the moment is a simple server that recieves a message from the client, does a database command and then loops through all the clients sending the original message and the database result (unless the command was a select from database).
This is good, but it is unicasting. Perl has multicasting, and it works well, but I don't know how to get flex to recieve the multicast messages and there doesn't seem to be any information on the internet about it.
Any help will be much appreciated.
you could shoot it through a java based server and use Ationscript/air soket layers to communicate. I am just theorising here
