All new Macs are equipped with ATI Radeon graphics cards........does anyone know if they will function well in PPro CS5 and CS5.5? Does one need to purchase a NVIDIA?
Also have read a great deal of problems with CS5 and multi-thread...........can one use CS5.5 and the new Macs (iMac, Macbook, Mac Pro)?
Yes, MAC's can be used.
They are restricted to software only mode of MPE, unless you get a nVidia card. Harware MPE is around 10 times faster than software MPE for rendering timelines. They have other limitations due to the OS, their expandability, or lack thereof, but If you want MAC, it does run (slowly).
I have an older Mac Pro with the ATI radeon 3870 card. I am expereinceing superior performance with the variety of formats I have thrown at the system so far.The ATI card works well with 5.5. I don't get the benefits of CUDA acceleration, but my work flow doesn't seem to suffer from it. I tend to dynamically link to After effects for ANY motion graphics or effects work I might need so PrP doesnt deal with that burden. Here is what an Nvidea approved for CUDA card will get you...
