Have applied a radial wipe to an ellipse and added a light + background, but the shadow does not change with the wipe (it remains as if the full ellipse were present). It DOES work with a simple drop shadow layer style, but prefer the flexibility of an actual light if possible. Does anyone know how to fix this / or why this effect does not allow light through the transparent area?
It's the rendering order that has bitten you. You must be using a shape layer. You will have to pre-compose the shape layer. You can either apply the radial wipe to the shape layer or to the pre-comp.
If you use a mask on a solid and apply your radial wipe to that the shadow will work.
Thanks a lot Rick, worked perfectly - would be lying if I said I understand exactly why but never mind
