          Lars,

          Welcome to the forum.

First the caveat - I am a PC-only guy, so this might well not apply to the Mac, and especially with the Lion version of the OS, but when I see, or read of a GUI display issue, the first thing that I check out is the video driver. What is the make/model of your video card, and what is the driver version number/date?

I would check the mfgr's. Web site (might also want to explore the Mac Web site too) for updated drivers and install/test the newest. With a new OS version, it might take nVidia, or ATI, a few weeks to get a new driver out. On the PC side-of-the-street, new SP's (Service Packs), yield a new driver, and usually within a month at the longest. Often, nVidia, or ATI, will have a new driver for the OS update ready to go, by the time that MicroSoft releases the SP.

If the new driver does not fix things, then armed with your video card's make and model, other Mac-users may have other tips for you.

Good luck, and please report on that video card and driver data - TIA.

          Hunt

PS - that red IS garish, so I completely understand how your nerves could fray...

I have the same issue in Premiere Pro CS4. It's taking me a lot longer to edit videos because of this bug.

I'm really hoping Adobe will support us on OS X Lion and earlier CS versions. I really can't afford to upgrade to CS 5.5!

              Hi Bill,

i agree that it might has to do with my graphic card - but the things with the mac, which makes working with it much more easier and less complicated - are in these cases a little ... ;-)

I have only one possibility to update my "drivers" (mac doesn't have drivers like microsoft) - by selecting the system update icon in my system bar. But the system seems to be up to date.

On the website of ATI there are no osx drivers for my graphic card available...

              My system:

              iMac 27" late 2009

              2,8 Ghz Intel Core i7

              4 GB 1067 Mhz DDR3

              ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB ( EFI-Driver 01.00.383 )

                Hi there,

we seem to have the same problem with osx lion and adobe products... I have CS3, and you CS4. That brings me to the question, if the newest version could deal with that or not... Maybe it's a general graphics issue between mac and adobe...

With the newness of Lion, and the age of both CS3 and CS4, there could be issues. Since both of those program versions are now history, I feel that it will be unlikely that Adobe will issue any updates for either - but could be wrong. Maybe Todd, or another Adobe person can comment on this?

Good luck, and sorry for the display issue - that IS an ugly red!

I am having a similar issue to installing Lion, however when dragging a slide or video into the timeline it lags and has the graphic residue left as I drag it across, which goes away when I click on the timeline but its still cumbersome. thinking of going down to the original os

I just got of the phone with adobe. He told me, they don't have any support for CS3 any more. And he agreed that there are maaaany bugs with lion and adobe products. But there probably won't be any updates for older versions... So three choices for me: Live with it, Go back to Snow Leopard or buy the incredible cheap update to CS 5.5 for nearly 2000 € ( instead of buying the full version for nearly 4000€ ).

I think I'll take option number 4 - > I'll work with Final Cut from now on...

                      Thank you Adobe.

                        Lars,

Thanks for sharing the discussion with Adobe. That confirms my fears.

Unfortunately, when one has an older program, that was written well before a new OS was even in development, things can go very wrong. The lack of support for a program, that is now 2.5 versions old, is about what I had expected. Adobe is not alone here, as I encountered many programs, that were written for earlier versions of Windows, when XP hit. Many would just not work, and could not be made to work. Also, none of those older versions were supported any longer.

For a very few, that I used often, I had to build a new computer, just for them. Though the "parts" of that computer were then state-of-the-art, I had to limit the installed RAM to 512MB (contemporary computers had 4GB RAM, but those older programs could not see more that 512MB, so reported that there was "not enough RAM" to run them, when there was actually too much! I also had to run a much older OS for them. Over time, I was finally able to find replacement programs for those "old stand-bys" most of which were from dead companies. When I was able to find replacements, I could finally go in and add 4GB of RAM and unleash the potential power of that box, with a new OS.

For other programs, I had to hold off on going to XP, until I had upgraded each. While not as expensive, as say Adobe Master Collection, because of the number, it was not cheap. It was not until XP was up to SP-2, that I could finally install the new OS, and then install all of my upgraded programs.

With legacy software, and newer OS's (not just on the PC), there are often compromises to be made. In my case, I took what I think was your "option 1."

I feel your pain, and that of several other users of Lion with older versions of Premiere. I have been there - done that, and had to bite a few bullets along the way. On one hand, we get more powerful OS's, but on the other, some legacy software will just not run on them.

                        Good luck,

Thanks Hunt. Still considering of turning my back against Lion and on the other hand still hoping, there might be any update for the problems...

I'll report, if there might be any way of getting it up and running again without buying everything new...

Good luck, and do please report.

It could also be that Apple will issue an update to Lion (would be a Service Pack in Windows), that fixes this display glitch. Cannot recall the issues now, but going back a few Mac OS iterations, there was a major update released, shortly after implementation, that fixed several things in Adobe programs.
