Premiere Elements project files are not cross-platform, Newby. You can't open a .prel created in the PC version of the program on a Mac. Sorry.
Video and Photo FILES may be opened... as long as the needed CODEC is installed... but not projects
Just curious... why the switch from PC to Mac?
I've made the move, John.
The program runs so much more efficiently on a Mac. (Although, as you can see in our FAQs, Adobe has also not included nearly as many effects and transitions in the Mac version as in the PC version.)
It's for my Dad. He loves Adobe Elements - but is always pulling his hair out with Windows. Just always something going wrong and the amount he has spent on engineers over the years he could have brought a mac!
I use both a PC and a MAC and I am most definatley not part of the argument over which is better. Each have their advantages.
But for my Dad, the Mac platform offers stability and power... this should keep him editing happy for a long time.
Oh and thanks everyone for their input and answering!
Just thought - I don't use Elements btw so sorry if this is stupid of me! - but can you export an EDL or something similar so my Dad can transport over his exsisting work flows into a Mac system (from PC)
Thanks in advance
This has been a fairly common question, since PrE was also ported for the Mac.
It is also confusing, as PrE's "big-brother," PrPro CAN migrate X-platform in most cases, and with but a few exceptions. However, PrE cannot. And, just to confuse things even more on the PrPro side of the street, Encore, the authoring app., that ships and installs with PrPro, cannot migrate Mac and PC NCOR files (Encore's Project files).
Do not feel bad about asking your question. Though the PREL (PrE's Project file) can often be Opened in PrPro, there is something about it, that is closer to the NCOR file from Encore, that keeps it from being opened X-platform. When I first read of this, I was surprised, as the PRPROJ files (PrPro's Project files) ARE X-platform.
I hope that your father starts having more luck with Windows.
