Try holding Ctrl+Alt+Shift and then launching PPro; this will reset your preferences, and might let PPro launch.
Thanks for the suggestion, but didn't do it. It popped up a box saying "Will you allow Adobe Premiere pro to make adjustments to your system?" but that's about it

That was written for After Effects, but the same suggestions apply to Premiere Pro, too.
Thank you Todd Kopriva I did a full uninstallation of Quick Time (even though I had the newest version), cleaned the C-drive for Quick Time related files, installed it again and volà! Back to my film project.
