How do you make text in an image look better

Someone told me how to do this in Illustrator awhile back but I do not remember how so thought maybe I can just do it (sorry, my wife works for Nike) in PS.

So, how do I make text that I have in or as an image look smoother? Currently I'm just doing a Save for Web & Devices and it comes out zagged and sort of pixelated.

Would it be better to do it in another Adobe CS4 program and then import/export to PS?

Thanks in advance for your help.

          You've left a lot implied...

Are you trying to do transparency?  If so, and you're using GIF, that explains the "jagged" look - GIF has either full or no transparency.  Try PNG format, which gives you 256 levels of transparency.

As far as the LOOK of the text, explore the options in the Layer Styles dialogs...
